David McGlothlin is a painter whose artistic journey began in the late 1960s when his grandfather, also a painter, put a brush in his hands. Since then, he has never stopped painting. His work has evolved through a variety of styles, drawing influence from a broad spectrum of artists including Fritz Scholder, David Salle, Julian Schnabel, and the Pop painters of the 1960s.
Throughout his career, David has worked in a range of mediums and roles, including a stint as an illustrator for Barney the Dinosaur and contributions to multiple children's books. Early in his career, he worked at art supply stores to take advantage of discounts on materials, solidifying his connection to the tools and resources that have shaped his creative process.
His paintings often avoid a defined narrative, instead pulling from a vast array of imagery—from peeling paper on a billboard to the works of Caravaggio—creating a visual vocabulary that is both personal and universal. As he puts it, "We all inhale the world around us" (Neo Rauch), and his work reflects this constant interaction with the world’s visual language.
David earned his education at the University of Texas at Arlington and has exhibited his work at venues including 500x Gallery, Alan Simmons Gallery, Full City Rooster, the Continental Gin Building, Taylor Daum Gallery, and Saatchi Art’s Best of the Year, several of their catalogs and The Other Art Fair in Dallas, Texas. His work is sold to collectors around the world.
