Josh "JJ" Jalowiec is a Texas-based sculptor whose work explores historical narratives, the invisible labor of working-class communities, and the passage of time on physical spaces. Their sculptures reflect on the use and abuse of artifacts and the challenges of preserving histories through memory.
JJ gained technical experience as a lab technician in ceramics and sculpture studios at Collin College and Southern Methodist University, where they helped build a cupola furnace that became central to Collin College's foundry program. They held a solo show, Mile Posts, at the Cudahy Historical Society in 2016 and have exhibited their work at venues including the Jewish Museum in New York City, NY and Arts Fort Worth in Fort Worth, TX. JJ has also been featured in publications like Forces journal and NORTHPARK The Magazine.
A passionate advocate for community engagement, JJ has volunteered with seniors, children, and teens, and has served on the board of the Achievement Center of Texas. In 2019, they earned a BFA in Studio Art from Southern Methodist University and have since continued their artistic practice, experimenting with new materials and casting techniques while assisting other sculptors.
